      Router crashing/disconnecting when laptop connected

Hi, I've been having this problem for the last month or so. Had sky broadband for 2 years and it has worked fine until then, all using same equipment.

I connect wirelessly to my router (Netgear DG834GT) with my XP PC without any difficulties. But as soon as my wife tries to connect wirelessly with her Vista laptop the problems start (It doesn't seem to matter whether I am connected at the same time or not).

Sometimes the router seems to crash (i.e. turn itself off and back on), and sometimes the internet connection just goes but the router remains on. It tends to happen about every ten minutes when the laptop is connected.

Does anybody know how to fix this. I don't think it can be a problem with the line as it has never happened when my PC is connected alone (which it is a lot of the time).

      Thanks

      Adam

I dont have my DG834GT plugged in at the moment, but from memory, log in to your router interface and then select the wireless tab.
Once you have found that you should see the channel 1-13 I think. check what number its set at then try a different number. Try channel 11.

You could use a program called net stumbler. this will tell you who is using wireless near you and also what Channel they are using.

Make sure you download the correct version ie vista or XP

When installed see what it comes up with and then change the wireless channel to be as far away from other locals channel.

On the GT click the Wireless link at the top of the menu, change the mode from Auto-108mbps to 'g only', then select the channel.

I would also uninstall the wireless adapter in the laptop and reinstall it using the latest manufacturers drivers. I is hard to see how connecting by wireless can cause a resync. What happens when the laptop is connected by cable?
