Question White Router DG834GT Range problem

I thought I'd try to improve my broadband speed by connecting my router directly to the BT Master Socket (to avoid the builder's internal phone wiring!) and use a wireless connection. Consequently I installed a Linksys Compact Wireless G USB Adaptor on my Dell Desktop PC. However the Sky network is not detected when the router is plugged into the BT Master Socket which is some 15 metres, as the crow flies from my Dell PC. However if I use a telephone socket in a room nearer to my PC (involving the builder's cable) all is well. Incidentally, I'm getting 9887 downstream and 766 upstream

Any suggestions why I can't achieve my original objective?

Incidentally since installing the Linksys on my PC (running under Vista Home) every time I start up (boot) the PC I get a Microsoft Error message advising "Linksys Wireless Manager has stopped working". However this does not prevent me from connecting to the internet. Any help on this oddity would also be welcome.

Re: White Router DG834GT Range problem

You would be better uninstalling the Linksys manager and allow Windows to handle the connection. This may improve your reception, if it doesn't, try changing the Channel in the router. If the mode is set to Auto 108, change this to 'g only'.
