      Second Wireless Router

Now I probably should already know this, work in "IT" so have a reasonable amount of network knowledge. But not really a big fan of wireless so that's where my my knowledge is a little limited, have a new phone (i8910) with wifi etc and it's nice to receive emails without being at the pc

I have a new sagem router downstairs, unfortunately located behind the TV with the DECT phone, as a result wireless in the house is a bit..... poop.

I have an old DG834GT router sat around doing nothing.

I have some powerline ethernet adaptors to take a network connection upstairs (XBMC).

Now the plan is to use the 834 upstairs as an extra wireless access point.

What's involved, can I just give it the same SSID? What about security, same PSK?

      Re: Second Wireless Router

I think you basically just want to set the DG834GT as an access point.

I'm not familiar with the menus on that router so see if there is just an option ot enable as an access point (there is on my belkin)

Im not then you will need to turn off DHCP on the DG834GT, assign it a static IP ont he same range as the Sky router (but high up in its DHCP or out of it if possible - you can reduce the dhcp lan on the sky router)
Set the gateway etc as the Sky router address.

Set the SSID the same as the SKY and same encription settings and key (make sure they are all identical uppercase etc)

You will need to set the wireless channel different to the sky router so if sky is on 1 set DG834GT to 11 or something.

Connect router up with the homeplugs you have.

Hopefully that should do the trick.
