Training of Max - Speed To Improve

Been connected to Sky since last Wednesday on the Max product.

Read that training takes places for 10 days to find the best speeds.

Old ISP was Demon on ADSL Max, last time I took the stats was from the old D-link router it showed...
Sync Down SNR Down Atten Up Sync Up SNR Up Atten
      4480 9 51 448 9 25

Which is about average what I have seen over the last x years on ADSL

Now with the Sagem router and on sky I was hoping for a slight better down sync of about 5mb due to the nature of ADSL2+ of the sky product.

Since Wednesday I have kept a log of the stats to see how the training was going and here is that log

Sync Down SNR Down Atten Up Sync Up SNR Up Atten
      4096 11.9 48 512 13 30
      4448 8.6 51.5 796 10.5 29.8
      4596 7.5 51.5 796 11 29.9
      5014 7.5 52 796 10.5 29.9
      4352 6.7 51.5 796 11.5 30
      4089 8.8 52 796 10.5 29.9
      4094 8 51.5 796 10.5 29.9
      4094 9 52 796 12 30
      4088 7.6 52 796 11.5 30

Now it stuck at 4088 for over 36hours

Will it improve? I thought I would be better than what I was achieving with old ADSL Max and a friend a few doors away on the estate get 5.5mb from the Talk Talk ADSL2+

The router is wired directly into the main original engineer ADSL installed face plate when ADSL first came to my exchange back in 2001

      The exchange link is here

I have tried rebooting the router a few times today but it keeps coming back with the 4088 Sync

When the router once connected at 5014 which was Friday evening the stats page showed no collisions etc.

      Thanks

Have you tried into the test socket (if you have one) behind the faceplate with a new filter to see if the stats on your noise margin change?

51attenuation will lead to about slightly more on adsl2+ - best speed about 4-5Mbps...

have you tried plugging in your Sky router - makes life a lot easier...

I think he is using the Sky router

I have tried rebooting the router a few times today but it keeps coming back with the 4088 Sync
Not a good idea when DLM is training, it can interpret it as a line fault and cap down the line. Best give it the full 10 days and if it does not improve, get in touch with Sky.

Try it in the Test socket as the old ADSL faceplate may have deteriorated over time or might not even be up to handing ADSL2+ which works on a wider frequency spectrum than ADSL.

OK, I'll hang on for another week then take it from there and see if the sync will pick up over the remain term.

Re: Training of Max - Speed To Improve

Well must be near to the end of my training now but looking at the stats every couple of hours and they still are around a sync of 4088

      A couple of questions,

      1) How do you know with the Sagem Router that the line is under training?

      2) How do you know if I am on Sky's LLU ADSL2+ equipment or rather the 8mb ADSL Max

      3) The Sagem router is poor at giving out any other stats, is there a way to get more or not?

      4) I did have a faulty BT phone line 2 days ago, the phone line was out for 19hours (No dial tone) but ADSL was still working but with poorer line stats

      Sync 3506 Down_SNR 5.2 Down_Atten 59.5 UpSpeed 149 Up_SNR 9 Up_Atten 48.4

Of course this will of altered the training of the line, so how can I get a higher speed like the...
      Sync 5104 Down_SNR 7.52 Down_Atten 52 UpSpeed 796 Up_SNR 10.5 Up_Atten 29.9 after I come out of Training. Do I have to request line training again.

I have just disconnected the main BT faceplate and plug the router directly into the read socket and the stats are
      Sync 4088 Down_SNR 7.8 Down_Atten 52 UpSpeed 796 Up_SNR 12 Up_Atten 30.1

So no improvement as the stats are the near identical before stripping the faceplate

      1. ALL lines undergo training on DLM - regardless of router, as you've now found out you can check on MySky

      2. Base, Mid & Max are all LLU - Only Connect is ADSL Max

      3. No

      4. Looks at present that this is the best you'll get as you're on adsl2+ already...

Re: Training of Max - Speed To Improve

You line attenuation suggests you could get slightly higher connection speeds, possibly 5-6 Mb, however your noise margin is quite low which could mean an issue with your wiring therefore 4 Mb is the best you can achieve at the moment.
