      Sky Netgear Router Keeps Rebooting!!

I have put on Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix (previously had Mint) everything is great except the following.
When my wireless network is detected I enter all the info as required, however, when I try to connect the router itself starts to reboot and does this several times. It will eventually connect after a while but it's doing my head in. I have also tried it on another persons sky router and it does the same?
I dual boot with XP (powerdvd) and this is fine. Im a bit lost on this so any help would be appreciated.

I think you will have to wait for a regular Ubuntu user, but it could be your adapter drivers which are causing the problem. I have read that some Linux drivers wireless drivers are a bit flakey. Maybe you could try uninstalling them and reinstalling.

Note to Admin - I think there may be a need for a Linux subsection. There are probably as many using Linux as there are Mac users. I have it on one of my PCs, but not with wireless

Re: Sky Netgear Router Keeps Rebooting!!

I have sorted this out now, very odd. If I enable the display ssid option in the router config it works fine, disable this and I get the router reboot issue. Very strange
      Thanks for your help

Yup linux and wireless don't seem to play well, I have read all sorts of problems with wireless and linux.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

Re: Sky Netgear Router Keeps Rebooting!!

Sounds to me like a problem with the router, rather than your PC. If its sending a command to the router to make it reload / reboot thats bad. No matter what the content of the wireless packets are being sent, the device should not reload / reboot, it should handle any "rogue" packets gracefully.

Can you get a log of what you send to your router? Does the router log anything useful, i think the router can connect to a syslog service. If you use something like wireshark you can capture the packets, im sure Netgear would be very interested to know this, in effect what you are doing here is a denial of service attack. (you could find a sky netgear router in your neighbour hood and make it reboot).
