      Re: router security logs,HELP

Probably just port scans and someone hoping that they can get onto your PC etc

      222.208.183.218 belongs to 222.208.183.218 - 222.208.183.218

I wouldn't be too worried as the router is pretty secure, and its normal for bots etc to try and find a weak link into a PC

Make sure your router is not responding to pings in the router settings, probably in advanced settings, this should make you invisible to any port probe.

It doesn't really matter, the whois shows where that particular IP was from.

Basically the router unless modified and all the ports were opened by the OP is pretty secure. All that traffic / log is showing is port scans etc It should be pretty similar in everyone's logs.

Using NAT - which the router does is designed to protect against this. ie the would be hacker would try to get a response off 90.123.123.123 whereas in reality your PC is 192.168.01.3 or similar. Unless there is a rule allowing all the traffic into the PC's IP you are secure. (The Sky routers, block incoming as standard)

      Re: router security logs,HELP

thank you all, made me feel a bit better about it, although i did check my router settings and in advanced it was set to respond to pings from the internet so i unchecked the box and clicked apply.im not sure why it was checked in the first place,i dont remember doing it.in the info column it says it can have security implications so i dont suppose it would be checked as default??would it??
id already looked at a few posts on here and took security advice and applied it in settings on my router so i hope im as secure as i can be!!
i just looked at 222.208 thing and it says CHINA......probably wanting to send me a menu....!

The last half dozen are from a Sky connection near Slough and there is a couple from Turkey

      Re: router security logs,HELP

As NR said, don't worry, that is just the router doing its job. Turning off respond to ping should stop it.
Your PC is in no danger, the router has stopped any attempts to intrude.

I use Superantispyware regularly. It is one of my first stops when cleaning up my friends PCs. Another good one is Malwarebytes, which you can get from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com the trial version is almost the same as the paid version, about all it lacks is real time protection.

Running one of these every week or so will keep your machine clean.
