      Internet very slow!

      Hello, im on sky 8mb package and im using the sagem router which comes with it. Im having problems with the connection speed, when i click on the statistics page it says downstream : 384kbps and upstream : 768 kbps. which is nowhere near what im paying for?
      Ive tryed to look into this before but the router is abit iffy and once its turned off it sometimes doesnt reconnect to the internet for a good half hour so its on constantly. id really like some help if thats possible many thanks

      Sounds like either your line or your setup. Can you post a set of stats and explain how the router is connected to the telephone line at the moment? We need the SNR readings as well as speed.

      Just because you pay for an UPTO 8mb product does not mean you will get 8mb.

      Speed depends on your line lenght and quality, this is outside of Sky's and any other ISP's control. Router stats from the test socket will give you the best stats and we will be able to give you a good idea of your maximum speed from them.

      will this help?
      Connection Speed 384 kbps 768 kbps
      Line Attenuation 51.0 db 30.0 db
      Noise Margin 8.0 db 13.0 db
      The router is plugged into the filter which is in my main bt socket, and my phone is plugged in the other hole. iv read DSL ZoneUK - Improve your speed - Extension wiring and Disconnection help and all my 6 cables are all plugged in but im really not to sure that this wont break my phone line?
      I realise this smithy i just didnt expect it to be worse than my other broadband packages in the past though not by much

      Can you plug into the test socket if you have one with a new filter?

      The only cables you need plugged into the master socket are the terminals 2 & 5, everything else should be removed as tey cause interference and noise on the line slowing you down.

      Plug into the test socket as advised. I don't think you will see a rise in your speed, as it looks like a capped figure, but you should see a rise in your noise margin. If the last figures are from your Test socket, your external line or the exchange equipment have a serious fault.

      If the speed is capped, the agent who did it needs a kick up the backside. 384kbps is not broadband and the reason for its necessity should have been looked into.

      How long have you been connected and what did you get with your last ISP?
