Still can't get it to work ...

To sum up, trying to install my father-in-laws NG834. Connected it to the wall, the lights started flashing and then the test light stayed green.

Tech. support talked me through running the Upgrade Wizard on the supplied CD but this didn't work. For a start, each page of the wizard overlaid the next one so you couldn't see any kind of pertinent information. Secondly, hitting the upgrade button did nowt.

They said it was the CD. (Really? The CD is faulty? I don't think so ...)

I've just tried the replacement CD and it did exactly the same thing. Which is what I fully expected to happen.

Two problems here I find unsettling:
      1) Tech. support are awful.
      2) Sky are upgrading the firmware over the Net (so the helpdesk told me).

Now, the router is being replaced. Will this happen again or has anyone else had the same problem?

      Thanks.

      Greetings,

Read this post (#9): Flashing a new Sky Netgear DG834GT Router and if the problem persists with the dialogues overlaying each other then add an MS Loop Back adapter. This is what I had to do to get the program working as I had the same problem with the dialogues, once I added the loop back adapter there were then 2 network devices choose the NIC and off it went.

Yep the formware updates go across the network for the firmwares, 90% go without issues but some have problems. The firmware upgrade tool on the CD is very choosy about what chipsets it works with so doesn't always work depending on what adaptor you use, what operating system you use and what router it is.

Thanks for your advice but all's well that ends well...

New router received and within just a few minutes it was happily sitting there with all the correct lights being displayed. Spent another few minutes installing a wireless dongle onto the PC, entered the network key and woo har, it all worked fine. Happy bunnies ... :-)

      Thanks again.
