This is a right old can of worms, and has been discused a lot. My own view is that it is unreasonable to expect Sky or any other ISP to support any router they do not supply but they could make the details avalible so you can use your own if you like.
Sky dont and, as I am now over my min term, if ever there was a problem with the sagem and they got upset about my using my own router while waiting for a replacement, then it would be time to leave.

we would get upset - especially if you called saying your was broken then we see the username running when we know your router is duff...kinda shooting yourself in the foot...

If that was the case, and Sky would not agree to my own router while waiting for a replacement, then time to go.

I agree with Brian, temporary use of your own router due to the Sky router being faulty should be overlooked, I cannot see what harm that would do.

You could always unplug it when you ring to report your Sky router faulty so that no connection is reported when you are speaking to them.

      Re: Change of Router.

but we then check to see if router is delivered so if we see your old username showing on your connection it's gonna be suss...

i agree temporary use should be overlooked, but at the same time why should it. You signed an contract stating you have to use our one so to use another - no matter the time frame - is breech of the contract...

now im sure you'll come back arguing 'if sky's router doesn't work then how can we get online?!?!' simple answer...you can't...

enjoy a few days away from the PC - catch up on TV...lol...

      Re: Change of Router.

I am very happy with Sky BB and the sagem, I'm just after a bit of insurance with my own router. This is also a good reason to keep Sky away from your line rental, as this would make a move much harder (or could do)

      Re: Change of Router.

Today for 5 I bought a DG834GT, which I'm lead to believe is a superior router.
I would guess that this is a Sky router flashed with Netgear's firmware. If it is, when you first access it you will be given the option to use the Set up Wizard. Did you use this and make sure you entered all the other details correctly?

I must say I prefer the copy and paste method to enter the LAN MAC in the generator, this way there is no chance of error. The punctuation can be included.

      Re: Change of Router.

      I have tried eveything.

I don't actually use the V2 router I have wirelessly as it's so poor!
I have a cable running down the hall.

I really don't know why it would be a problem when all I'm doing is using the router that Sky originally gave to people!

I do understand that I can't expect Sky to take responsibility it the GT becomes faulty, and I'm not that unreasonable to expect them to!

Cheers for all the help dudes.

i assume you've tried changing channels on the router to try and get better signal, and have you considered homeplugs? infinitely better than wireless and a hell of a lot quicker...
