reason why my speed has gotten so low?

2 days ago it was at noise margin 6,7 or 8, the line attun is always 44 and the speed was always 5560kbps/448kbps, but now its gone so low and this is after 1 month of having sky bb connect.

what happened? my download speeds blow now and speedtest show my connection as being like something from year 2000 lol

Re: reason why my speed has gotten so low?

Could be a stuck Profile. Go to BT Performance Tester enter your phone number then your ADSL username. This will do an official BT speed test and show your present profile. Your ADSL username is <the LAN MAC number of your router, no colons, followed by> @skydsl You can also obtain this from the router by using one of the utilities available on the forum.

You should be able to use this report when phone Sky, but it will depend on who takes your call as Sky TS do not seem to be trained for Connect customers. This tester is always busy, it could take several attempts to get on.

Post the results and we will see if anything is obvious.

Well going by that pic is not a stuck Profile as the router has only been up for 10 hours ,
It can take up to 72 hours from the profile to change again ,

So if you are not all ready plug in to the master socket and leave the router on for a min of 4 days and check again

Re: reason why my speed has gotten so low?

Well i didnt give you all the info: im using a 100 metre phone extension cable stupidly but it was there to use to run my line to the main socket. I have now purchased a 7.5 metre RJ11 to RJ11 cable which will make my router go directly to the filter at which my phone is attached to at the main socket in the hallway of my place.

I called sky tech services had a chat with an advisor and he said its highly probably that my speeds going so bad is due to the 100 metres the signal has to travel down the cable extension I have i.e. losing signal, I informed him about me buying that rj11 ro rj11 cable and he said that should fix the problem as its only 7.5m and is an up to date cable, and would mean my router be going straight to the main socket in the hallway.

      would you agree with this?

Re: reason why my speed has gotten so low?

Can you confirm that the stats above were taken using the RJ11 cable? Have you done the Performance test?

If you have a Test socket, plug into it and take the stats from there. It is important to understand that, unlike LLU, changes will not take place immediately, but can take up to 3 days. The noise margin should be the only thing to increase immediately. To return to 5000mbps you really need a much higher noise margin. If you were using a 100m phone extension, I am surprised that you achieved any speed at all.

Re: reason why my speed has gotten so low?

yah its crappy 100m extension cable, and i havent received the RJ11 cable mate, waiting for it in the mail, that screenie was on 100m cable etc..

pretty sure the new RJ11 cable should increase the speeds or at least keep it more constant, this afternoon i was at 4.5mb and dling from fileplanet of which im a member of at 300-400kbps, but now in evening its gone crap again still 4.5mb but the dl speed is ****e, think your right about the slow downs at 5:30-10:30pm.
