Constant Disconnection problems, please help me!

I joined Sky broadband max approximatly 2 months ago now. I got disconnected every now and then which would require me to reset the router. It is now disconnecting at least once a day. I have now been on the phone to sky several times where i have been put through the Customer Solutions team twice. The last time i was on the phone they altered some profile settings and capped my speed to 5.6Mb. They said on the phone they could see alot of errors building up on the line.

That was on Sunday. Some days seem worse than other days. I have a sky netgear router (black one) and it was conected to the master socket in house. I have now tried connecting it to an extension which is in my mums bedroom. The extension box is not connected to the master socket though it connects straight to the BT box outside our house. Three cables come out of the box, one comes from underground (which i assume comes from the exchange) one goes under our front door to the hallway and the other goes up the front of the house into my mums room.

I mention that because does it really make a difference which box it is connected 2 as they both come the box outside?

If someone could help me i would be most gratful! I never had any of these problems when we were with BT.

Yes it does make a big differance how your telephones are wired. Could you post up your line stats from the router. In the meantime, could you find the master telephone socket (it could be any of the ones you mention) and disconnect the wire connected to terminal "3", this is the ring line and it may improve your BB performance.
The master socket will be the one which contains components. If you are in any doubt then disconnect "3" on all the sockets.

Yeah thats it. you have been capped, by Sky to keep your line stable, Have you disconnected the ring line, the one which connects to "3" at the master socket?

No not yet. What would happen if i did that? (sorry i dont know much about this kind of stuff)

I have 2 phone boxes in the house, both connect straight to the BT box outside the house and do not connect with each other yet hold the same phone number. Would the master be the larger out the 2 boxes?

If the larger has a split across the front then it is the master, but as you say both boxes are connected externaly, check both sockets and remove the wire connected to the terminal marked "3" Any phones or sky boxes connected to the sockets must have a filter (you got a couple with the router and prob still have some from your time with BT) Nothing will happen to your phones, but with a bit of luck the noise margin will increase on your router

Re: Constant Disconnection problems, please help me!

Just had a look inside the phone box. There is numbers 1-6 on the faceplate but nothing is connected to them. At the back where the cable is there is just a wire connecting to 'A' and a wire connecting to 'B' the other wires are just tied up doing nothing.

      ??

Right now check the extension and remove any wire connected to "3" What you have said indicates that you wiring is all connected externaly.
