      Router will not connect

My mate had a problem when his router wireless connection started giving problems . He thought it was the wireless card in his pc and replaced the same.
BUT the router will not connect to the pc at all now. We tried connecting by wire but the connection does not show in xp window (bottom right) although Devise Manager shows it to be Enabled.
We can't access the router through Internet Explorer as it just won't connect using the address 192.168.0.1.
I have just realised that his router is a black unit standing on its end and not the white Netgear unit like mine - is there a new type now?
Has anyone any ideas? Or can you point me at a tutorial as I can't seem to find anything by searching.
Thanks for any help at all

      Re: Router will not connect

Your mate needs to call tech support in case the router is faulty. If the ethernet cable won't provide connectivity and you are sure the LAN connection is working correctly something is wrong. You could try setting a manual IP on the LAN port on the PC (192.168.0.13) and a manual DNS and gateway of 192.168.0.1 and see if that helps.
Also if any firewalls are installed disable them for testing purposes. The white netgear is the original phase 1 router, the black routers are the new Sagem and Netgear phase 2 routers.

      Re: Router will not connect

The fact that the connection does not show in the system tray doesn't signify anything. The icon is turned on and off in Control Panel - Network Connections Right-click on Local Area Connection and click Properties. If you tick the 2 boxes at the bottom you will see the icon.

      Re: Router will not connect

What coloured lights are on in the router? Try resetting the router if all the lights that should be on are not on. Push a pin in the little hole a the back and hold it there until the lights flash. If this fails, phone Sky support as already advised.
