      worrying requests

      Hi,

I joined sky broadband this week and have connected using the supplied Sagem router, firmware 1.9sky.

When I reboot the router I have been getting messages from the web requesting the user name and password to access the device.

The firewall is set to block all incoming and the wireless does not broadcast the SSID.

I changed the router password, SSID and pass phrase when I set it up to ensure security, but I am finding these requests worrying.

Any ideas on what I need to change to stop the router broadcasting it's existence and inviting trouble.

I have never had this problem with any other router.

      Thanks in advance

      Welcome to the forums.

this problem has been posted before and I can never remember the solution. Don't worry, your router isn't being hacked, hopefully someone will come along with teh solution (I'm sure NewsreadeR know's it).

      Re: worrying requests

Sometimes when the router loses synch with the exchange, it pops up a login box.

      Does it look like this?

      Re: worrying requests

It does indeed, but the address requesting the password hasn't been the router, I've seen http// somethingorother.google.com and http// webnote.com or similar.

      Re: worrying requests

If you are trying to access those URLS for example you type google.com and then the router loses sync, it would look as if google.com is trying to access the login page.

tbh I thought Sky had sorted this by adding this screen, when it loses sync.

Your router is pretty secure out of the box, so I would guess its the above scenario.

      Re: worrying requests

Thanks, I have seen that screen. I'll try and get a screen shot if it happens again.

I've not been able make it happen by just rebooting or rebooting when logged into the router.

      Re: worrying requests

Mine does it if I'm streaming off iPlayer etc. I'll get the dialogue box NewsreadeR has shown, but if I'm surfing and the connection drops, I'll get the Sky 404 page.
