No sky connection via. ethernet, wireless works fine. Help

Hey guys, got a good one here. My brother was on his usuall internet gaming and our connection suddenly dropped and it won't come back now. I have my PC connected to Sky's Netgear 934GT via. ethernet. It recognises that there there is something there, but says that it's an 'unidentified network'. I have reset the router and powered it down, but still no joy. I haven't updated my PC recently or changed any settings. The weird thing is that my laptop connects to the router wirelessly and is flying on the internet. My PC is running Vista 64-bit and I have never ever had any trouble with it or any software running on it.
Has anyone got any idea's as to what could be the problem. I don't want to call Sky yet as the suicidal waiting times are a last resort.

set a manual IP to the PC in question...should fix it...the same thing Sky tech would tell you on first level...

      other possible solutions...

Already set, like I said, we were on the internet with no trouble, my brother was on his internet gaming when it kicked him out and all the lights on the router stayed the same, but now with the settings the same as before, all we get is 'unidentified network'. I think I'll have to give Sky a call, spend a few hours baking my ear.
      Thanks for your help

nothing to do with Sky so don't waste your time...only possible thing thing they can do is replace the router...

perhaps set IP to auto and see what happens...

try the lan port on the laptop and see if that gets a connection to totally disprove the router being at fault

My stupid sky router does this occasionaly

go to cmd and type these:

      ipconfig /flushdns

      then

      netsh winsock reset

      then

      netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

then restart, normally fixes it for me. Same here though, the wireless stays connected, sometimes happens the other way round for me though, the wireless drops and ethernet stays it seems to happen when there are a lot of connections open. Torrents that are set to high bandwith do this a lot for me lol

Re: No sky connection via. ethernet, wireless works fine. Help

      Thanks James,
Tried it and it works, but I have already popped to PC World and picked up a Belkin wireless G adapter.
It's a blessing in disguise as I had a phone extension running up my stairs from the master socket to the router, but now I am flying wirelessly and no one needs to break their necks on the wire. The proof is whether internet gaming is up to speed. Might as well use this as an oppurtunity to make my house safer.
Also, I am thinking back to what the PC was doing on Saturday when it went, I had a torrent downloading at over 600k and my brother internet gaming so I can see how the problem came about. I blame Demonoid for being such a good tracker. Hehe.
      Thanks for your help peeps.
