      network cable unplugged

hello, this isn't linked to my connection speed issues, which have largely been resolved now, however...
yesterday I was sitting using the internet, online gaming. and my connection suddenly disappeared. and "network cable unplugged" appeared on the task bar. Thinking it was probably the cable, I replaced it, but still no joy. So I thought it's either the router ethernet or the built in NIC on the motheboard. I switched off the router (black netgear). And proceded to uninstall the card from the pc, I then scanned for hardware changes, and the pc found the card. no problem at all. So I uninstalled the drivers, and card, and rebooted. It still found the card.
THe router has adsl, power and wireless lights on steady green.
I tried the "loopback" setting on the router, by plugging both cable ends into the ethernet port, and the ethernet lights came on. Any one got any other suggestions, I am going to try a pci network card later today.

      Re: network cable unplugged

your PC can find the card but the actual port it self can go bust - girlfriends laptop did the same - and if the same cable/router works with another PC you've already ruled that out...buy a new NIC
