well, line noise fluctuates over a day...it's at around 11 in the day time but have seen it drop to 0 twice before yet connection hasn't dropped...this is through an XTE-2005 also...

only thing I'd possibly change my router for is a N router but seeing as my house is wired for ethernet there's no point...

That's correct, but the Netgear (and other AR7 routers) all behave erratically. A Broadcom-based router, for example, would hold a pretty solid SNRM, with only a 1 or 2dB change between day and night.

Out of interest, does anyone know which Netgear DG834Gv3 (is that right?) firmware version Sky's v2.02.34 corresponds to? It's just that I thought the issues with AR7 chipsets were possibly sorted in Netgear's version v4.01.37.

only issues i heard about regarding the AR-7 chipset were for BTW (Connect) adsl connections...seems there was an issue with the becoming erratic but as said for now i'll stick with what I have...

out of interest, what chipset do the Linksys WAG160N and Draytek Vigor 2820n have?

I'm not convinced it's limited to IPStream; I'm experiencing the same issues now. It's a known issue and there's no denying that - Netgear have even supposidly fixed it! I know Sky's Netgear DG934G is currently not based on the latest Netgear release as it has the negative SNRM reporting bug, which has been fixed.

Stone the crows!! an 11dB shift is huge if it's true and not a router problem. You must have miles of overhead line or live near a source of interferance.

Re: Activated today but unhappy with router

attenuation is 46, have been in sync at 5.2Mbps for 47 days...SNR is usually 11 but does drop into low singles figures at night...

i live in the sticks and this is the same i get in the test socket - wouldn't be surprised if there is a source of interference somewhere (possibly where the powerlines come in) but im happy so don't worry about it was only getting 2.5Mbps on BT...

      It's the Netgear, honest.

exactly - of course, i'd love to find out any source of interference as i'd love to get as much out of my connection as possible BUT as i already have over 100% increase over BT i'll leave it alone!!

Re: Activated today but unhappy with router

I flashed my DG934G with the latest DG834Gv3 firmware. The ADSL firmware version on the Sky firmware is 6.02.01.00, whilst it's 7.03.01.66 on the Netgear firmware.

The SNRM is certainly better; it doesn't fluctuate nearly as much, and I didn't see it fall below 4dB (though, for me, that's still too low for comfort). I've now reverted back to the Sky firmware, and immediately I see the SNRM dropping to 0dB.

      I want a different chipset!
