      Re: Constant disconnections.

When I was using my router, I got better stats and it didn't disconnect once. But I sold it a few days ago. (I was testing it to see if it still worked before selling). With the sagem, I get disconnected all the time. it has happened 14 times this evening.

      Re: Constant disconnections.

Your noise margin is below the recomended 7db, that is why you are dropping the connection. Can you do the stats again from the test socket, this is behind the front face of the master socket which is the first socket connected to the external line.

I was told that the lower it is, the better.. I dont know where the master socket is either.. so i cant test it.

anyway, my old linksys worked fine for the week that i used it.. surely the sagem shouldnt have problems?

      Re: Constant disconnections.

No, your noise margin needs to be 7 or above to hold a steady connection. Some routers may be able to deal better with a low SNR.

You should really correct the fault which is more than likely internal wiring than anything else as you will be getting errors on your line.

      Re: Constant disconnections.

the SNR needs to be above 7, the attenuation is lower the better...in your case VERY good!!

as said, try the test socket and if it jumps up then you go a wiring issue...doubt VERY much it's the router...

      Re: Constant disconnections.

well like i said, i have no idea where the master socket is or if we even have one. All we have is a line coming in through the cellar, then it goes into a grey box then up to the bar. Would there be a test socket in there?

id still like a new router anyway, ive had to mod it because it overheats.

      Re: Constant disconnections.

you can't just get a new router cause you've mucked about with it...it has to actually be faulty and until you find your master/test socket you can't rule out the wiring being the cause...don't waste your time calling Sky until you've exhausted everything you can your end...

this is what you're looking for...

if you have one, remove the bottom half and plug in the filter with just the router attached and re-post stats...
