      Problem sharing files

Not sure I'm posting this in the right place:

I've got a desktop pc running Windows XP and a laptop running Vista.

I want to share some files over a wireless network.

I can see my XP pc in the network window on Vista but when I try to access it I get a message saying "/COMPUTER unable to connect check spelling".

      Any ideas?

Check that both PCs have different names, if you have not named them do so. Also check that both have the same Workgroup name, the default names in Vista and XP are different. Calling your Workgroup 'Home' is a good solution.

Also check in XP that you have designated the folder you want to access as Shared. Right click the folder and select 'Sharing and Security. In Vista make sure that File Sharing is turned on in the Network and Sharing Centre and again right click the folder you want to share and select 'Share...'

      Re: Problem sharing files

Turn off any firewalls while setting up file sharing -- once everything is working the firewalls will adapt to the new network.
