Exclamation No light at the end of the tunnel with sky routers?

      Right where do i start?
Have been with sky broadband for a year now, and since the beginning we have had nothing but promblems, was offline more than online, we had a white router and we used a belkin on the pc upstairs, used wire sometimes for ps3 sometimes without, and a wifi laptop, it worked, but towards the end the lights were staying off near enough all the time, called sky and got a free black router.

To start with i couldn't connect it to the pc upstairs as it wouldn't pick the router up, the wifi laptop went straight on, finally got the pc sorted, now i was on pc last night through my belkin and my partner was online with his ps3 all of a sudden they both went off the net, but all the lights were still on? where is the sense in that? as far as i know i don't have any probs with phoneline, but now the nets working on wifi laptop through wire but nothing else will work on wireless, has anyone got any ideas of how to help because sky are not very helpful!
      thanks

You seem to be saying that the computer that is connected to the router by ethernet cable is connecting to the internet. So that would eliminate phone line probs.

Most likely, if you are suffering intermittent wireless connection to the router, is poor reception or interference. Try moving the router above furniture level. Try changing channels in the router, especially if the wireless adapters are inidicating other wifi networks in the area.

If there is a permanent lack of wireless connection between wireless equipped computers and the router, it may be an encryption issue. Try disabling wireless security in the router temporarily until you get a reliable connection. Then ensure that you apply the same security standard and passphrase to both ends,

Help on addressing the router's user interface and setting it up should be on the disc accompanying the router or look at tutorials on this site.

Can you see other wireless networks in your area? If so that would be the likely suspect, channel interference can cause horrendous issues if someone decides to use the channel you have been on for ages and their signal overpowers yours.

Download Netstumbler from the link below and have a look for other networks. As Paul implies, wireless broadband is becoming too popular, causing problems which did not exist before.

Agree with all that's been said. In addition don't forget that other electrical items can interfere. DECT phones - make sure the router is not next to the base station of a cordless phone. Bluetooth devices also use the same frequency range as WiFi and may interfere.
