      Question DNS problems

Up until now I've left my DNS set to those supplied by Sky. However I thought I'd try OpenDNS as an extra layer of defense against the current security threats faced by DNS.

The problem is I've slected the OpenDNS 208.67.222.222 / 208.67.220.220 DNS address from Vista and if I ipconfig/all it reports these are the operational addresses. But if I open 192.168.0.1 the Sky Router reports the DNS to be unchanged at 90.207.238.97 / 99. I can see the first is software set and the latter is hardware set but which is the system actually using (logically it should be the router settings as they are the last in the chain).

So which DNS is in use and how can I change the router settings (Mk1 Sky)?

      Re: DNS problems

If you visit OpenDNS's site you will see a notice at the top of the screen that you are using OpenDNS. Settings on your PC over-ride the router settings. If you want to change the router to the Open servers you will have to install James Community FW which you will find here-
      Community Updates for the DG834GT

I believe this can also be done by using Mel's Notes but I have never tried it.

      Re: DNS problems

Thanks. Terrific concise answer! The OpenDNS site does report I'm using their DNS.
