Re: Sagem f@st 2504 and security issues

In fact guys, now that I'm in the router settings, is there anything you suggest I do?

Maybe some features that make it more secure, but aren't selected at default?

I'm not great with this kind of thing, but I'm trying to learn. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

      Hi
Entirely guessing of course, but you could have a punt with admin and sky.

Without wishing to be condescending be sure to read the helpful instructions and cautions that accompany the menu. I have changed the network key to a list of numbers and letters and altered the SSID name to make it a bit more personal. The feature I like is to add the MAC address of your own computer (and any other computers using it) to the filter in security settings (mark "allow"). This way if somebody should break the network key (unlikely one would hope) with their computer, they will still not be able to use your internet connection because the MAC address on their machine will not be recognised by the router and rejected.
You might also wish to consider unchecking the "Ping" in the advanced settings. And then go to the site ShieldsUp https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
and check to see how secure you are!

Re: Sagem f@st 2504 and security issues

I run the scans on the link you posted and every thing come back great! .... All 1056 service ports come back as Stealth!

Your Internet port 139 does not appear to exist!
One or more ports on this system are operating in FULL STEALTH MODE! Standard Internet behavior requires port connection attempts to be answered with a success or refusal response. Therefore, only an attempt to connect to a nonexistent computer results in no response of either kind. But YOUR computer has DELIBERATELY CHOSEN NOT TO RESPOND (that's very cool!) which represents advanced computer and port stealthing capabilities. A machine configured in this fashion is well hardened to Internet NetBIOS attack and intrusion.

Unable to connect with NetBIOS to your computer.
All attempts to get any information from your computer have FAILED. (This is very uncommon for a Windows networking-based PC.) Relative to vulnerabilities from Windows networking, this computer appears to be VERY SECURE since it is NOT exposing ANY of its internal NetBIOS networking protocol over the Internet.
I'm not sure whether it's common to get the results I've just got, but they seem to suggest that my computer is currently very safe.... and I'm pretty happy with that!

Thanks for the link mate! (rep added)

That's good to hear SCFC_Messiah. Sounds as if you have done a full port scan which is good. ShieldsUp is invaluable I think. There are also some useful diagnostic/security tools on that site depending on which operating system you are using.

If you run a scan on Port 8080 you will find that it is open by default. To close it you need to disable Remote Management in the router settings. This is probably left open to allow diagnostics, so Sky CST may ask you to open it if you phone them with a problem.
