Angry Laptop wont connect to router, any help?!

Sorry if this has been resolved before but im at my wits end!
I've just bought a toshiba laptop running vista premium with wireless capability and even though it will connect wirelessly with EVERY other router ive tried it with, it wont connect to mine! (sky netgear router)

I've done EVERYTHING! (Entered the network key correctly before anyone tries that one!) changed to WEP encryption, disabled encryption and tried to connect, changed the channel to 11, and 6 and 1 then back to 11!!

I was on the phone to sky for half and hour while he tried everything but no avail, then he basically turned around and said its probably a compatibility problem with vista and i should phone the manufacturer (which i did and he said that it was a bull excuse! and theres no compatibility issues)

After some researching i've found a few posts about a similar problem but i cant seem to find the answer! Its a brand new laptop so i really cant see the problem!

They're sending me out a new router but he doesn't think thats the problem anyway (he also told me to just but a WLAN usb adapter and use that!)

ANY help?! Im close to throwing both the router and my laptop out of the window!

Ah i worked it out for myself! When we connected the Wii to the router we set up MAC filtering on the access list, i just added the laptop to the trusted list and badabing! Thank god!

Too bad the bloody idiots at sky couldn't work it out!

Why should they have worked out that you had set up MAC filtering? You are lucky they didn't follow the guide and hard reset your router back to how it arrived.
Did you get an access denied error when trying to connect? If not how would the sky agent have know you had tinkered with the router setup?

Agreed - the answer lay in the comment 'it will connect to any router but mine'. So what have YOU done with your router to make it different? MAC Filtering activated for Wii. Answered your own question with information only you had.

I am surprised he did not ask you to reset your router, this is one of the basic trouble-shooting steps and would have solved your connection problem. Why did you need MAC filtering with the Wii? You should really be using WPA security, if you are in the wrong neighbourhood, MAC filtering is as much good as a chocolate fire-guard.
