    weird noise margin stats

      weird noise margin stats

      Hi as mentioned early , i have been losing internet connection (flashing amber light) every night after 9pm-when getting dark!! Been watching my noise margin stats on sky router status and this isRouter StatisticsSystem Up Time: 00:41:43

      what I get
      Then 5 secs later it goes back to 0db then to 2147483647 db. I think any minute now it will start flashing amber on my sagem wireless router then that will be me off for the night!Blimey it just dropped to 0 0 and i couldnt send this but for some reason its come back on which its not done before and now the downstreams varying from 1 to 3 db??

      The router can't report a minus noise margin figure (you can't have one really) so when the noise margin drops below zero you get that strange figure reported.

      In a nutshell you have a serious line problem. As it is consistently around the time it gets dark I'd suspect your line is running near some street lighting or similar (low energy lighting and fluorescent lighting in the home is also possible). Your stats show there is a lot of inherent noise in your line - try a test socket comparison to see if the problem is local or not.

      Your options are to find and fix the problem (not easy if it is external) or boost your noise margin to compensate with a hit to your speed.

      i had this very problem about 3 months ago, contacted BT faults and got auto line test done faulty line reported
      put onto customer service who re did line test and said it was excessive power being put across line at exchange openreach were informed and line was sorted next working day
      i was also not getting all incoming calls sometimes phone rang but cut off when either i answered or answer machine cut in also buzzing on line
