port forward on apple airport extreme

      Hi,

I have an apple airport extreme with a hard drive attached to the USB port on it.

I know from what i've read that you can access the hard drive over tinternet, but im struggling to get it to work (http://discussions.apple.com/thread....85580&#6985580)

I think ive set up the airport extreme correctly, but struggling on how to access it using an external address.

I have a domain set up with dydns (abc.xyz.com), but how to i get this to go to my airport extrem IP of 192.168.0.253?

      Any ideas?

      Cheers.

The clue is DMZ Server ...

In the V2 (black) router the set up is on Advanced | WAN Setup page
      Default DMZ Server

You should not change these parameters unless you have a specific reason to do so and you are an experienced user. Specifying a Default DMZ Server allows you to set up a computer or server that is available to anyone on the Internet for services that you haven't defined. There are security issues with doing this, so only do this if you're willing to risk open access. If you do not assign a Default DMZ Server, the Router discards any incoming service requests which are undefined. This can be a security problem. You shouldn't check this box unless you have a specific reason to do so.
To assign a computer or server to be a DMZ server:
Click the Default DMZ Server checkbox
Type the IP address for that server.
      Click Apply
      .
You would have to set the Sky router to assign your Airport Extreme as a "DMZ server" using the above instructions (clipped from the DB934T's config page).

Then you will have to configure your Airport Extreme to allow WAN (Internet) access to your USB hard drive.

I'm not sure what the precise config is for the white V1 router but it will be along the same lines.

Grrrrr, I hate dyndns It works great sometimes, and other times it doesn't. You need to make sure that your chosen url in dyndns is resolving to your correct IP address. Sometimes the router does not update dyndns with the IP address that it is currently using.

The best way to check is to first find out the WAN address in the router and then use nslookup from Windows command prompt to see if the URL resolves to the same IP address.

Thats probably whats happening ... probably

Re: port forward on apple airport extreme

hmmm, well i know that dydns is defo point to my ISPs IP address.

As Airport Extreme isnt http or ftp you have to enter it in the RUN box.

when i enter \\abc.xyz.com and hit enter it says the network path cannot be found.

... just had a thought after i ran nslookup.... ive only just set up the new dydns so switch to one that i already had and it works!!!!!! My new dydns just hasn't populated yet.

Cool.... thanks a lot for your help! you've been great!
