      Router hit and miss connection

Can someone please help me, my router a netgear V2 DG934G connects when ever it wants, sometimes it will take 10 mins and some times up to an hour. The @ light is amber then green (showing it has connected) but then i lose the connection then it re connects several times before the connection because more stable. The connection still drops off and connects up all the time it is use, This is happening on both wired and wireless connections. I have tried my test socket and this is exactly the same.
Please help before i am forced to try a new router (against skys T&C)

Could be the line, if that light is going amber then something is up. Can you post your router stats and explain your connections? (ie how many telephone sockets in the property, how many are in use, do you have sky tv and is the adaptor plugged into the telephone line via a filter).

Re: Router hit and miss connection

Im at work at the moment but i will post my stats when i get home, as for connections there are 4 sockets in the property one in use for broadband and one in use for phone and sky, these are both plugged in to the line via the filters supplied.

Re: Router hit and miss connection

You may want to try on a test socket, if anything has gone wrong on the extensions you couls see this issue. It could also be that currently your router is trying to connect to the servers at a speed to high for your line conditions, a call to T1 could result in a slightly capped line but leave you stable. Try the test socket first though with just a filter and router connected.

Re: Router hit and miss connection

your stats look a lot healthier (see your connection speed, was 6700ish form your normal socket and 8160 from the test socket)

this shows you do have some noise being introduced from your internal wirirng, you could have a look in the cabling and face forum for tips on how to improve

do you often turn your router off ? (they are made to be left on)

Re: Router hit and miss connection

may be this is my problem then as i turn it on and off as i need it, but this does not explain why the connection keeps dropping off or woul it become more stable if left on ????

Re: Router hit and miss connection

It would be best to leave it on all the time, and if you booted it up mid evening this should give you a stable connection

your extention was giving you some problems with noise and until fixed will carry on to do so (not sure if you have looked in the cabling and faceplate forum)

if you can, test the connection tonight from the test socket, and see how it performs
if you do get disconected, check to see if it is the router re-syncing with the exchange or if it is just your wireless connection
