recommend you change these settings or atleast the password as anyone gaining access to your wireless network could get into your router settings and mess them around

How do you go about changing username? I was able to change password but could not find how to change the username. Thanks! JC

You can't change the username. (Well, actually you can but it's a bit of a "hack"). There's not a huge advantage in changing your router password unless you share a house with people who like to fiddle with things! The most important thing is to change your WPA password ("network key") to something better than the default - something like 20 random letters, digits and punctuation marks.

@James
I have been wondering about this. Is it possible to take a backup of the settings, using the routers built in utility, edit the cfg file and restore it, again using the routers utility. Would this put the changes into effect, or am I taking too simplistic a view of it.

That's a perfectly good idea. In fact, I believe that there were a few additional options available on the old V1.02.28 firmware which you could change even though you weren't supposed to be able to.
However, the settings file that the V1.03.87 firmware creates no longer has any of these.

^^^^^^
Yes, in particular the DNS servers. This was what I thought I might want to change if the Open servers ever started playing up. I had not noticed they were no longer in the Usage list till you mentioned it.
