Question Internet access stops after 15 minutes

Ever since the end of last year, my Sky broadband stops working after about 15 minutes.

I have to remove the power lead from the router and re-plug it, to get the internet working again. (But just for another 15 minute burst.)

I have spoken/emailed Sky many, many times, going through a number of stages (including a new router, BT engineer call-out, etc.), but no luck.

Have any other users experienced the same problems?

      Thanks.

Classic symptom of the V1 original firmware UPnP "bug". Turn off UPnP in the router admin pages, reboot and the problem should go away. It's extaordinary that after all this time (it's been known about for 18 months) Sky still isn't training its agents about this and is wasting money on sending out new routers.

The new firmware is supposed to have fixed this bug but there are several reports that there are still problems with UPnP. To get the new firmware you can either wait for your router to be auto-updated sometime over the next few days/weeks or you can download it and do it yourself.

Re: Internet access stops after 15 minutes

Thanks for your comments. I finally managed to speak to someone at Sky who has solved the problem. Firstly, he suggested turning off the power setting of the ethernet card, which didn't actually help.

In the end, we turned off the wireless capability of the router, and the internet now stays connected.

I asked about the firmware, but the bloke said that was for wireless connections. Incidentally, the firmware update took place this week (after my connection was fixed).

If that is the case the router is faulty and should be replaced, it is supplied to you as a wireless router and should work as such.

      Rubbish!!

On asking Sky for a rebate on the problems that took 4 months to fix and the fact that my wireless internet is no longer wireless, I was told that as the service was "Base", it was free and therefore they couldn't compensate!

      I persisted and got a 20 rebate.

I shall probably revert back to Tiscali after the year's contract ends.

that may be best, sky may go out of business supplying your free broadband, then having to pay you for using it
