Internet stops working, wireless stays connected...

Hi i have been having this problem for a couple of months. My broadband randomly stops working even i use ethernet cables. When i connect wirelessly on my laptop the little world symbol goes so i i cant access the internet, but i still stay connected to the router. To get back on the internet i have to unplug the router and plug it back in. Also all the lights are on correctly when im not disconnected.
Is my router faulty? Thanks in advance.

Post your router stats, its more likely that the line is showing errors and the errors are building up to the point where the connection drops.

It might also be worth trying to renew the IP address. From the Start menu click Run then enter CMD. In the box enter ipconfig /release (note a space before /) then type ipconfig /renew (same space). Then ipconfig /all (space as before) will give you all your IP configuration details.

More than likely it is errors building on the line and then dropping the connection and then when you reboot the router you refresh the connection and the errors go away but then they start building again and this would explain the drop outs but there is no way of telling untill you post router stats.

With your attenuation you should connect a lot faster than you are. Plug in to the Test socket, behind the Master socket faceplate and take your stats from there. A rise in your connection speed or noise margin will indicated that you are picking up errors from your internal wiring. Do this and post back the results.

Iv been having a similar problem for a couple of days now, it seems to be my DNS server this is my problem. i can get it to work through the router if i go on and reset it, you could do that if you know how if not just post back and il let you know.

Re: Internet stops working, wireless stays connected...

Hi i noticed that aswell when being disconnected form my ps3 it came up with a dns error, and the same on my laptop. Resteting in the router settings on the laptop is fine, but if it just randomly stops workin in the middle of online gaming it is annoying. Id understand if it was wireless only, but it drops even when wired in!
