Do these stats look OK ?

      Hi,
When I first got Sky BB max I was getting close to 4MB down but over time my connection has gone down to around 1.5 Mb.
With a bit of fiddling about using the mega doughnuts utility Ive managed to get up to 2.1 mb.

Going by my stats does anyone think it`s a noisy/ error ridden line , a dodgy router or likely to be my internal wiring (which hasn`t change since first installing BB about a year ago).

      Stats:

They dont look too bad. I assume you have raised your noise margin using the "doughnuts" utility ? Try a comparison with the test socket that will rule out internal wiring issues if there are any.

No I had to lower `target noise margin to` i think 4db to get the speed up , when I raised it speed dropped !
Will try master socket later (did do this when first connected to sky and it didn`t reall make much difference though but will try it).

I assume the exclamation mark means you were surprised by this?

The router needs an amount of noise margin to be able to differentiate between noise and signal. The bigger the noise margin the less there is available for signal and so the lower the sync. Conversely, the lower the noise margin the higher the sync though below a certain threshold (router, firmware and line quality dependent) the connection will become increasingly poor due to line errors.

Only surprised because other poster thought that I`d raised it, thanks for the explanation about noise margins.
BTW has anyone else noticed that their connection speed has dropped over time, any connection with the recent outage ?

i have seen this a few times on this site over the last few weeks, i do think the outage has made people look at there connection and notice the poor speeds rather than the outage being the problem.
still waiting for some of the posters to check from there test sockets and post back (as i think most of the time this is the real problem)

Sorry probably didnt explain what I was asking properly. Your stats show the noise margin at 13.9, what I meant was did you raise the target nm in mognuts for it to be that or is that what it is at with the standard target nm.

It was around 8db to start before fiddling around.

So you dropped it to 4 from 8 and now it is over 13

Looks like you have put your signature into practise.

It also looks like you have been slightly capped, either because you asked for your delay to be lowered, which it has, or noise on your line. You are still showing errors even with the cap.

Never asked to be capped, but alway thought i might be because of 416kb upload.
I`m starting to think router could be the problem.
