      Unhappy Constantly dying while streaming

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section(please move it to the right one if possible), I firstly did a search for my problem but apon seeing the date of the post I didn't want to Necromancer a thread from August of last here eventhough the poster has/had the same problem I'm having now. (posting being this: Constant Disconnects and Reboots!)

Difference being my mother connects wirelessly and I'm plugged in through the ethernet cable but to simplify this so you don't have to check the thread if you dont want to (parts not relevent edited out btw):

I am usually connected to a Ventrilo server, playing World of Warcraft and streaming a radio station via WinAmp, as well as trawling the web with Firefox.

Knowing the above, I can briefly explain what happens. The first sign is WinAmp constantly losing connection and buffering for a short period until it cannot establish a connection. My World of Warcraft client hangs until I get disconnected from server. I drop from Ventrilo and I cannot load up web pages either. This is when I reboot my router.
Now having quoted that I was told before by I can't remember who might of been a person in Sky Support to open a dos window with run and flush my DNS and then renew my IP. Since that I haven't been able to stream anything yet can do all my other daily stuff (as mentioned in quoted section) just fine with the exception of my net dying while im at tech or sleeping. So I got thinking as at my tech a tutor briefly mentioned that DNS is a type of server, to try to set up one or connect to one with my router (Netgear DG834GT or w/e it is) which I did with DynDNS.org since that was listed in the router settings and becuase I kept getting a blank page with OpenDNS.org.

So I came home today saw the net was still working and didn't need to be rebooted and rejoiced prematurely, so I started up my winamp, logged onto Ventrilo and my precious game expecting to have some fun chilling out to music and something some stuff ingame with some friends while chatting with them... Not even 15 minutes pass and winamp starts up, so I figure "heh just a glitch with the channel <.<;" Sadly it was not and then shortly my router did its lovely act of playing dead till rebooted.

So basicly I'm at my wits end here as last time I had a problem I had about 15 calls in one month to technical support which almost always produced no results other then being capped further and further away from the speed being paid for. Any help on how to fix this would be wonderful and extremely appreciated.

      Metty

I will also try to get my stats up once I find the thing for doing that.

firstly, your shouldn't be on adsl2, let alone 2+, with that attenuation...

secondly, looks like you're on Base...

      Re: Constantly dying while streaming

its a bit odd, you are connected gaster than your max ?
      SNR (dB): 7.4 11.0
      Attn(dB): 63.5 41.3
      Pwr(dBm): 0.0 12.4
      Max(Kbps): 1992 516
      Rate (Kbps): 2046 412

couple of things, could you do a set of comarison stats from the "test" socket (see first link in sig)

also just as a test, in the mognuts utility you can change your connection from ADSL2+ to GDMT, change it over and see if that helps (changes made in mognuts will not break anything and will go back to default if you reset)

      Re: Constantly dying while streaming

Oh trust me I'm on max considering I'm the one paying for it, as I said Its been capped several times (from about 8 or 10 when I got it), they even capped it down to 1mb it just recently went upto 2mb. Its now also dying after transfering 5mb through msn/xfire. Also it is in the test socket as that's the one Sky said to leave it in as according to them it would be "better". I also can't seem to see where to change it to gdmt in mognuts.

      Router IP Address:

Select the Target Noise Margin: dB

Select the Target Noise Margin: N units
(integer values only, 100 = router default)

      Turn SRA on:

      Get detailed modem statistics:

      Start telnet daemon:

      Kill telnet daemon:

      Get username & password:

      Download netgear.cfg file:
      (required after getting modem statistics
      or username & password)

is all I see when going through the link plus the buttons there ofcourse, or do you mean in the .cfg file and load it into the router?

also, are you sure you had the higher speeds, with your attenuation you should not have been able to get 8meg ??

      Re: Constantly dying while streaming

Ah version 3 was in the link makes sense now!

I set it to Gdmt but it still says in the stats its ASDL2, I'm going to guess thats odd?
EDIT: Yes I am quite sure I had higher speeds before, but it died about every hour an a half or so.

      Re: Constantly dying while streaming

ok, last thing i can think of is to use the mognuts utility and set your noise to about 10 or 12 (from 7) and see if you still get the same problems.
this will slow your connection but may help keep it all going
i would think your problem is due to the error count raising which means more and more data need to be resent until the router fails

see if the above helps, if not post back as someone else may have some idear

      HTH
