      Which router is best?

      Hello,

I received the Sagem router with my Sky Broadband. I had problems with it, which turned out to be a IP address conflict on my computer so it's fine. However, it was too late to cancel a new router they were sending out to me. I received a new white Netgear router in the post today.

I was wondering which router was better...Sagem or Netgear? I have to send one back so I would appreciate your help.

      Thanks

As a side issue, when you have time could you plug in the Netgear and see what firmware it is running. I had a duff Sagem, fixed and ended up with a white Netgear. The sagem has proved fine so the Netgear went back.
I was asked about the Netgear firmware but I had already returned it.

      Re: Which router is best?

If the Netgear is running V1.02.28 firmware, then the Sagem will definitely be a lot better, because the old Netgear routers are simply dire.

And as Brian said, it would be interesting to find out what firmware the Netgear has. It's very unlikely to be newer than V1.02.28, but there is a small chance that it will be, in which case you may find people taking an unexpected interest in it!

Thanks for the info. Just a quick question before I check the Netgear router. Will using the new Netgear router affect sky in any way and will it be ok to go back to the Sagem one?

You don't need to plug the phone line into the netgear, just power it up and plug into your network socket.

I'm afraid it's the same firmware on Netgear router DG834GT. So I should technically keep the Sagem then.

      Re: Which router is best?

while you have the white netgear router, why not have a look at your detailed stats (you cannot do this on the new netgear or sagem at the moment)
it may be handy just to see what your line is upto

(see second link in my sig, you will be looking for the mognuts utility)

      Indeed it does!

What problems did/does the Netgear have that the Sagem doesn't have, for curiosity?

      Re: Which router is best?

Well I'am new to sky, but the Sagem Appears to hang on to sync far better than the Netgear is reported to. No doubt others will add their input soon
