Unhappy SAGEM v2 router and DYNDNS

Everything has been working fine for about a month then today I received the dreaded "HOSTNAME BLOCKED DUE TO ABUSE" e-mail from dyndns.com.

The message seems to indicate that the the sagem has been trying (several times) to update my dyndns address with an IP address which hasn't changed.

Anyone else had (or know of) this problem ?

Re: SAGEM v2 router and DYNDNS

The DynDNS program on the router doesn't seem to store the last IP address given to the DynDNS servers anywhere in NVRAM. This means that if you were to switch the router off, then back on again, and if you were assigned the same IP address, the router's request to update the IP address stored by DynDNS would be considered an abuse. Looking at all 3 Sky routers, it seems to be a problem common to them all.

Personally, I haven't had a problem - but then I never get the same address twice, that's the norm for Sky Broadband. However, there was someone else on the forum who did seem to get the same IP address every time. That would be a serious problem for anyone using DynDNS.

The only solution would be to upgrade your DynDNS account. It's not particularly expensive, especially since they charge in dollars.

Re: SAGEM v2 router and DYNDNS

Thanks James67 .... I do remember that I did switch the router off and on several times over a period of several days so I guess I must have been (un)lucky to get the same IP address.

If I get the same IP address every time, then I don't need DYNDNS ... but there's no guarantees. So I think I'll try to get my account re-set and leave the router switched on (instead of playing!!) ... if that still gives problems then its the $11.50 route :-(
