      Why do Sky provide there original firmware with the CD provided?

      Just a thought that came to me,

      If Sky dont like us flashing there routers why do they provide the original image for the V1 Sky firmware?

      I think the idea may have been if something went drastically wrong with the router, they would ask you to re-flash it. They obviously find it easier to send out a new router

      i thought it was something to do with the licensing as the FW is open source - might be wrong though...

      and Sky will never ask you to re-flash the router...it's not in training or ANY procedure. a replacement will always be sent instead...

      It's due to Sky having a support contract for netgear, if all else fails netgear support can talk the EU through putting the original firmware back on the router to reset everything back to factory fresh so to speak. Sky CS will not talk the customer through this obviously but it's an option that Netgear can make use of.

      The GPL licence requires that Sagem release the GPL'd source code for the router. Sagem have something of a reputation for sticking two fingers up at the GPL. Or do I mean le bras d'honneur?
