      Re: Sky Deception

you can most likely can but that would break skys T&C's, even if a sky representative said it's possible.

      Re: Sky Deception

and you have a sagem which is currently 'un-hackable'...

but yeah, its in the T&Cs that you can't use your own gear so if you were told it was false...

The OP doesn't say that he was told he could, just that he told the Sky rep that he wanted to during signup. They may have told him he couldn't, or simply said nothing. Who knows.

Are there any particular reasons you want to use your Belkin router?

      Re: Sky Deception

I read on another forum (DS I think) that a user, who wanted to use his own router threatened to leave if he did not get his username and password, was given them by a Sky tech. I don't know if it is true, I have not seen it mentioned on this forum and I would think the Sky tech would be sacked if he was discovered. One of the Sky bods could probably confirm this. TBH, I took his post with a pinch of salt.

      ^^^^
I read on another forum (DS I think)
Here is the post make what you want of it
I've just got off the phone from a couple of hours drudgery with tech support. I spoke to a super-user at tier 3 support who refused to give me the pppoa username and password (although admitted he could find it for me but would apparently get in trouble if he did), and eventually I gave up and asked to be passed through to the cancellations department.

I explained my reasons for cancelling to the customer services guy. He disappeared off on hold for a minute or two, and lo and behold, I was given the details! After a bit of confusion whether the password contained capital Os, or zeroes, I've got my Netgear Wireless-N router up and running with Sky!

Your mileage may vary - I was genuinely a new customer who specifically asked to use my own router at the point of sale a couple of weeks ago - I need dodgy secure VPN software etc for my out-of-hours work and really was going through the cancellation and not just having a bit of grumble. But it looks as if the threat of cancellation does at least work to get these details in some cases.

      Re: Sky Deception

personally, id tell the person in cancellations for just cancel them and let them leave rather than risk my job...but thats just my personal opinion of course and if Sky are THAT bothered about one customer then they'd just allow the use of routers in the first place!!

Prefer the belkin very user friendly and wireless strength excellent. Might get to use it yet if the unhackable sagem has been cracked!!

      Re: Sky Deception

why not just plug the belkin into the Sky router and use it as a wireless gateway? saves bricking a perfectly good router with an extremely dodgy hack...

have also alerted colleagues to the fact the router is hacked so Sky are on the lookout for 'suspicious' router failiures...
