There are a number of White routers for sale on ebay.
Some boxed, branded Sky and "brand new".
Are there any problems in buying one of these
      for using with Sky Broadband?
What will you need to do if you are already a Sky BB
customer and unable to get a new White router from Sky?

Well, there is the risk that the connection username and password that are programmed into the router might have been disabled, but it is possible to set any V1 router to use your own connection username and password. In fact, I'd actually recommend doing that, even if the original username and password still work.

The only pitfall I can see is that you might not get the router firmware upgrade that is imminent. The router makes periodic requests to see if new firmware is available, and it supplies its MAC address as part of that. If the router username and password have been disabled by Sky, then it's quite likely that the update server won't respond to that MAC address any more either.
