Yes, it does. What do you mean when you say you've set the network up "as normal"?
      How are you networking, wirelessly?
      Which operating systems?
      Which firewall are you running?
Have you setup the individual hard drives to share?
Do you have the same "group" name on all machines?
      Somebody's bound to ask.....

Re: Does sky router support home networking i.e share files and printers

I get the impression that one of the most common reasons why Windows networking that used to work, but no longer does when someone changes to Sky Broadband, is down to the McAfee software on the CD-ROM that came with the router.

It's always best not to install the software on the CD-ROM. It certainly isn't necessary to get the Sky Broadband connection working. If you've already installed it, then uninstalling the McAfee firewall software might well get Windows networking working again.

EDIT: obviously, it's always best to use anti-virus software on a Windows PC, but the free anti-virus programs - AVG and Avast! - are just as good as McAfee, in my opinion.

Almost anything is better than Macrapee - excepting any Norton products which are, if anything worse! I bunged Comodo, another freebie, on my laptop for a try out last week and haven't looked back yet. Very easy in use and it's noticably reduced boot time. And it hasn't interfered in the slightest with my wireless/wired network setup either. Result.

Re: Does sky router support home networking i.e share files and printers

All firewalls will need to be configured to bring the other computers into a "trusted zone" so that the firewall doesn't block the home network.

Whatever firewall you are using there is usually a "home network" setup that you can do on all the PC's to enable this.

When setting up a home network I first turn off all firewalls, get the network running and setup using the Windows networking wizard and then turn on the firewalls and then configure them.

It can be a pain to get this all going.

Re: Does sky router support home networking i.e share files and printers

      Hi all.

I think some people may have misunderstood. I have a home desktop and a laptop. I have set up the sky wireless network and that is running smoothly with no problems. However, i want to print wirelessley from my laptop connecting thorugh a home network. So, as i done when i had aol router, i used windows home network setup from control panel. I set up network mshome however cannot find any other computers on network. I completed the same set up process on laptop and cannot seem to be able to access my desktop files or printers or even my workstation when i go to view workgroup compters from my network places. I made sure that printer and file sharing is enabled and that my firewall is not interfereing with my network. I am really stumped on this one as before when i was using aol router it done it first time and had no problems. Can someone please help.

      Thanks

Is your printer plugged into the router via ethernet, that's the way i got mine to work wirelessly, if it is connected to a pc then you will need to share it.

Ah huh. Two PCs, you used to be able to use Windows networking between the two when you were on AOL, but now you're on Sky, you can't, and you're concluding that it's the router's fault.

Well, I can assure you categorically, that the Sky router (as it was supplied to you) does not block Windows networking between your PCs. There is an option on the Sky router called "wireless isolation" which when ticked prevents communication between wireless PCs, but it's off by default.

This means that either your Sky router has developed the most bizarre fault ever, or you have changed something - probably without realising it.

Did you use the CD-ROM supplied with the router? You still haven't answered that question. If you did, you may have ended up with two layers of firewalling - the McAfee firewall and whatever firewall you were using before.

I have also had the file sharing problems.

I deleted the Mcafee from my laptop last night and instaled avast. Still no link there yet.

I may have to do the same to my PC. I am running Norton on there which has gone out of date.

Re: Does sky router support home networking i.e share files and printers

      Hi Gazpol,

Have you got the workgroup setup ie "MSHOME" or something else
Have you got trusted zones set up in your Firewall? (as PC's use different IP addresses when restarted and try not to conflict with other pc's on the LAN)
If running Vista you have to setup the Networking, and permissions
check what IP address your PC is using, click start, run, type CMD and in the black DOS window, type "ipconfig" without quotes - you should see 192.168.0.4 or similar along with other information
      Paul
