      I broke my router!

everytime i turn my router on now

the top two lights come on and nothing else... its a black one, the net gear one.

it wont let me have full 100% ethernet connection either just limited or no connectivity and i cant see it wirelessly, all the connects are right.

i think its broke coz i dropped a chest of drawers on it! oops...

is there anyway of using my old orange livebox router with it you think?

or... how much are new routers from sky?

      Cheers for the help!

      Re: I broke my router!

Ring them up and tell them the lights on the router don't come on and it doesn't power up, tell them you have tried something else in the socket and the socket is working. DO NOT MENTION dropping something on it. You will not be able to get another router on the connection without details locked into the router you have just broken.
Please be careful with the next one as they cost money

If you just tell them it no longer powers up and that you have tested the main socket they will, mention dropping a chest of drawers onto it and they may think again. The details in the screenshot will not be your username and password that are hardcoded into the router as these cannot be seen on the firmware screens.

      Re: I broke my router!

if they send me another router out.. what will i have to change?

will it not just be a case of putting the new one in place of this one, updating the WEP n stuff like that?

i think i know my sky email address and password n all that... what info do i need thats hardcoded into the router?

      im worried now!

is there no way of using this orange livebox router at all???

      Re: I broke my router!

Like I said, no. All that will change is the wireless network key. Your sky.com/ email login details are not the same as your router username and password details that are hardcoded to the router.

sky have sent me a new router out, that works fine but... i believe it to be an old one, the white one.

it works better than that black one does!

      Re: I broke my router!

      Now that's surprising - replacing a V2 router with a V1 router.

Don't forget to change the WPA password. Using the default password (the one on the bottom of the router) is not secure as it can be easily calculated from the router's MAC address.
