The reboot from router setting menu has worked well for me. I did this the other night coupled with messing about with my phone wiring (i found too many wires connected from my single extension to my master socket (the diagrams on dslzone were really handy for sorting the wiring out).

A combination of repeated reboots and the drop in interference has left me with a stable connection, about 80hrs uptime as of this morning.

Well I'm afraid this doesn't seem to help in my case - however my SNR is down around 7 most of the time & drops to as low as 4 from time to time. I think that is my problem. Getting a new faceplate this week which hopefully will make a difference.

Today's stats...

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1792 kbps 608 kbps
Line Attenuation 61.5 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.1 db 10.0 db

7 is just OK - but 6 or under it will die. You need to do a reboot when it falls below 6.

I guess looking at your stats you are either along way from the exchange or your wiring is bad. Try connecting your router to the master socket if you can, i see you are fitting a faceplate that will help, but make sure it is done on the point where the line comes in - don't put it on an extension.

Good news!!! It certainly worked well for me - after the reboot i've now been up 24 hours with a stable connection. It gets a bit near the limit at around 8pm but it holds just fine.

Send a message via AIM to firestorm_westy

Does the router need rebooting after making the changes?

Will this not reset everything to factory defaults?

I have a 14,500+ connection all day yesterday, made the changes at 16:00 or so, and it continue to hold - Then, as per usual, at 20:30 or so I dropped form 14,500 to 47! (That is NOT a typo!).

I hadn't reset the router, so perhaps that could help?

btw, still awaiting a call from Tier 3 support....

Paul

Not if you do the reboot from http://192.168.0.1. - just follow the instructions in the first post. It works... You need to do the reboot after the problem occurs - this is usually when your NM drops to 6 or under - that is what kills your speed - a reboot is required which will lower your sync speed and make your line more stable

Yes, I'm a long way away - tbh I was only expecting to get 1/2mb but I was hoping it would at least be stable !
The master socket pushes it up to just over 10 which is a good sign I think. Hopefully the master socket will make a difference.
Once installed can I plug the router into any extention or will I be limited to the master ?
