Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

Before you bother calling Sky and losing the will to live you need to investigate further why your SNR is so low, it could be either a noisy or faulty line from the exchange to you or you have internal wiring problems.

There is not anything you can do about your attenuation.

The stats you posted earlier do not show all the data, ie if there are errors on the line, etc.

Have you tried the router via the engineers test socket inside the main BT box ?

Have you had a look at the stickies regarding faceplates and internal wiring ?.
One day you are the pigeon, but most days just the statue ...

Sounds like a plan. i will give it go

My router always disconnected when transfering a file from a wired machine to a wireless machine. SO annoying.

Any form transfer which is quite high the router decides to drop the wireless connection. HOW rubbish.

May not be your router, maybe your wireless card, do you have any power saving switched on?

      Hi Ding Dong,

Will these fixes work if I am not using a wireless connection. Is there anything I would need to set up differently to get a stable non-wireless connection.

      Cheers,

      Scott

In part yes. The connection between your router and sky is the same whether you are using wired or wireless.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

Hope this is the best place to post this. I have just signed up to SkyUser

I am having quite a lot of connection troubles. The connection can stay in place for hours but more often than not it is being lost every 5 minuets.

All was fine until a few months ago when we asked BT to move the phone line from the hall into the lounge - we got a wireless phone that needed to plug into a power point which we didn't have in the hallway.

We used to have a second line in the house - that was years ago when I had a dial up connection - so we asked BT to move our existing line to that. They did not change the sockets over. Would the old line have had a master socket connection with it only being a second line.

I have unticked the uPnP box on the server and set the wireless setting to Auto 108. Are there any other tips that have emerged since this thread was originally started? There are rather a lot of pages to read through I am afraid... especially when you have a flakey connection!!!!!

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

      Hi,
I recently signed up to Sky broadband and recieved all the gear and set my self up. Followed all the good instructions on here, disable UPNP etc. However my router still locks up once a week or so. Its scary reading therads on here of pepole being happy that there connection has been stable overnight!!! Has anyone got there router stable ?? By stable I mean it NEVER crashes. My previous Speedtouch 510 has NEVER crashed in over 3 years and would be connected for months at a time.

When the router crashes I have to unplug the ADSL cable to allow it to reboot or else it dies again during or shortly after power up. Twice now I have had to restore my settings becuase it when back to factory defaults all on its own. What a pile of rubbish. The wireless connection also goes unstable after a while and refuses connection from my other PC. I have temp switched back to my speedtouch and other wireless access point. I really want to use the SKY router becuase it will sync at a higher rate and has wireless built-in but it is too unreliable.

Are there any success stories out there ??

      Chris

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

I would be delighted if mine only froze once a week!

BTW I meant to mention in my earlier post today (Sunday) that we took the faceplate off the socket in the lounge and plugged the microfilter straight into the "hole" but the router still disconnected after a couple of minutes. Presumably that means a filtered faceplate wouldn't help.

And you've turned off UPnP in the router?
