Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

Well, I've had enough and as I still have technical problems since getting sky bb I am still allowed to cancel. I have asked for my mac address and am going to try another broadband company. I don't think the router is the problem.

I raised my third ticket with sky on Friday as I could not connect for more than 5 mins and had to wait up to 30 mins for the internet light to come on again. Second ticket was closed because I did not call back third level support, believe me I tried! :-) When sky recalibriated my line (first ticket) I had a connection that lasted hours, but then the speed went down to 512kb so I switched the router off overnight. Since then I have had either no connection or a connection lasting up to 30 mins, but its been worse lately.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

      Hi,
I phoned sky yesterday for an update on my final ticket. I also asked them to send me a new router in case that is the problem as I wanted to give them a chance to resolve my problem before I cancel. Helpdesk said my Third ticket has been closed. Then went through some checks including one that was "unplug phone from microfilter". I said that means I won't be able to talk to you. Helpdesk said, yes if that happens call back. I didn't ring back. Useless.

My connection currently lasts 5 mins and I have to unplug the router for about 20 mins to get another connection. Sigh. Can't wait till MAC code arrives. haha.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

      Hi,

I've recently taken the Sky plunge and got the Max package, I've had nothing but trouble since the moment they switched us over from good ole reliable Tesco to thier "service".

I was without any kind of internet for two weeks after the switchover and after my router arrived I was without internet browsing capabilities until 3rd tier support (BT) "did something to my line", just when I thought everything was sorted the router kept dropping connection.

Thanks to the initial poster on this thread I have finally managed to prevent the router from dropping every five minutes by turning off upnp.

      Big thanks to that guy!

P.S. Some irish guy on the sky helpdesk is now referring users to this site to fix problems created by sky.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

I do wonder how many times we're going to have to tell Sky that they have a problem with their routers, until they even acknowledge it? Several months after I specifically asked several different people there to make sure the message got passed on about this uPnP thing, they're still denying knowledge - and I'm sure I'm not the only one that's mentioned it.

It is just starting to annoy me that Sky seems to work in a different time to the rest of us ... possible router upgrades, e-mail/googlemail changes, simply getting onto the LLU would be nice, 5 months after the exchange was enabled ... Big, in their case, obviously means slow and stupid ...

After 3 nice months with Sky, my connection has started going AWOL over the past fortnight. Used nifty utility at Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4
to give me a bit more of a buffer with the noise margin, and I've switched off UPnP as advised in this forum. Let's see if it manages to last the night! Otherwise, are we able to buy a different router from nice people at Maplin or (heaven forbid) PC World that we can configure to not drop out every 10 minutes? I don't mind the 10/month charge for Sky, but I'd like it to be reliable.

Did you use the nifty software to get your detailed stats to see if your line is clocking errors, I had same problem turned out to be nowt to do with the router.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

      Hi all,
Been with sky connect for around 5 days now.
Impressed with the speed, given how far I am from my exchange, but the reliability is crap.
I've had a netgear router for 3 years with no bother, whats going on?
The lan side all appears to work, but when you view the router stats it keeps intermittently losing it's IP address, needing to be reset.
I know the answer is probably on here somewhere hopefully as I've been ticketed by some guy in Bombay who doesn't have a clue.
Anybody got a fix for this, please!!

      Hi Koala5,
No I didn't do that, but with UPnP switched off the connection's stayed up overnight which is a first.
Detailed stats which I have now downloaded are probably not something I should post on here in their entirety, though I'm not sure what I should be looking for. If it's the ratio between SF(2404976) & SFerr(251) or the ratio between RSCorr(3717774) & RSUnCorr(3654), then I don't think I'm getting a massive error rate. I've also got 0 Drop Cells and 0 Bit Errors (Up & Down).

      Down Up
      SNR (dB): 11.6 12.0
      Attn(dB): 34.0 19.7
      Pwr(dBm): 0.0 12.4
      Max(Kbps): 5224 864
      Rate (Kbps): 5133 764

Could this be due to the 10 day "learning" period?
