Post your stats off the Netgear home page as your noise margin looked pretty bad a few days back.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

Here's one for you: I was checking some of my router firewall settings regarding forwarding my Utorrent port. Since then, I lost my connection to the network.
I can no longer re-connect to my router to check the settings. Even when I plug it in using the yellow ethernet cable, when i type in the router address, the page cannot be displayed. I've had connection problems on and off since I started with Sky but nothing seems to cure this. I have a feeling it may be to do something with the dynamic IP address but I really don't know what I'm doing. I called Sky and they said that I should speak to Belkin to configure by wireless adapter but I really don't think this will help.
      HELP!!!

These are with two 'puters using the router, mine via ethernet and another via wireless.
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4224 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.0 db 25.0 db
Noise Margin 6.8 db 23.0 db

Re: the TCP program, I can understand the BDP and MTU, but am a bit hazy as to what I should be setting the Connection Speed as. Where would I find that out? Also, where would I get the correct info from to use the Avanced Settings?

Your Speedtest.net results looked pretty good, I'm jealous!

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

Firstly are you on Sky Max BB ?

Working on the basis you are on Max, from your stats the connection speeds are very slow (low). These numbers were similar to mine before I downloaded the TCP program.

Line attenuation is high at 41.0db and you need to check where the exchange is as this may be the reason behind it.

Then your noise margin at 6.8db is very, very low and may make your router disconnect, there is a thread that tells you how to reset the router to a better noise margin.

On the TCP and, if u are on Sky Max set the connection speed to 16,000 kbps and click on 'optimal settings' at the bottom right.

I never got into the Advanced Settings myself as it transformed my speeds without it.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

No, I'm on Sky Connect which approximates Sky Mid I think ( up to 8 Mbps), so I'll set TCP to 8000.
My noise margin is currently 5.8 but since I turned off that UPnP I don't seem to suffer from disconnections (famous last words!). Now it's back up to 6.9!

I'm a bit wary of changing the advanced settings but think I'll settle down now with a cup of tea, a fag, and SpeedGuide.net - TCP Optimizer

PS - for the politically correct, fag meaning cigarette!

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

There was a thread about setting up router to get best noise margin but I've never had a problem with that as it hovers around 9.1db.

Might be worthwhile checking your telephone box if you've not already done it as an ASDL faceplate seems to fix this.

A cuppa and a fag sounds a great idea

Wonder what would happen if you set the TCP slider to 20,000

I learnt something from you, I thought a guy on here put the TCP Optimizer together until I saw the link in your last message

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

My router froze every 20 minutes approximately and I used to have to follow the instructions I once received from a Sky customer service agent in the Phillipines somewhere, namely to unplug the whole thing and start again. Now, thanks to Dingdong, I appear to have a router that works faultlessly. This site is excellent, but it does seem to be somewhat adoring of Sky. Why can't they get it right from scratch rather than rely on users to sort out their problems? I'm just an old dude with a laptop, not a rocket scientist! Once again, many thanks
