With the wired connection it should always be ok, as there is nothing to get disconnected. It only affects wireless connections. With the wired connection i believe you are always connected at 100MB anyway

My thoughts exactly - she had all the same problems as me.

Makes me wonder also about the number of users sky must have had that cancelled due to this. If i were them i'd seriously think about suing netgear for providing software that doesn't support basic functions

My router has been fine since I switched off uPnP on friday evening and I haven't had a single problem, it's been online for around 48 hours. I think a lot of people having problems will find switching it off will cure most of the lockup problems. The speeds I've been getting have been amazing!!

i thought too that it was a upnp problem and i switched that off last night at 7pm and did not have any problems until about 2 hours ago.

i had left the router on over night to see what had happened and 16 hours l8er the same problem has reared its ugly head again

very very slow turn over of pages and no proper speed test - even after rebooting the problem returns an hor or so l8er

my stats are :

Connection Speed 15323 kbps 766 kbps
Line Attenuation 20.0 db 10.9 db
Noise Margin 13.8 db 12.8 db

now at a loss as to what the problem could be if it aint the upnp ?

any ideas ?

did you also set it to 108M

also at 7:30 to 8:30 you will probably get a drop in Noise Margin - if you were syncing near the limit it would affect you. You probably need to reboot to fix it if you have not already done so. You will then tomorrow it will be ok if you don't reboot or turn your router off in the meantine

Many Thanks DingDong!

I was supposed to be switched over from Pipex on Thurs but didn't get a chance to switch the modems over until yesterday afternoon.

Pretty painless as far as connecting the modem was concern and then linking my laptop and desktop to it.

I was pretty worried about Sky not providing the admin ID and password though because anyone with the knowledge could have connected to my modem and change the settings.

The helpdesk is to be avoided unless you have no choice - I can't get onto www.skybroadband.com to set up my emails (cannot find age). I was told by the helpline that the webmail was down (yesterday) so it may be related. Only trouble was it took them 20 minutes to tell me that after asking me to ping, etc.

I can now get to the webpage but I still cannot log on to SkyBroadband so I don't know if the webmail is still down or it is something else.

Anyway, many thanks for the default password. I feel a bit safer now that I have changed it and I can monitor the logs for any suspicious activities.

I think all new users should be given this information and advised to change the default password as soon as they are connected (like when you get your ATM pin).
