Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

The faceplate should have two screws, undo this and there is the engineers socket inside (right hand side). This is connected direct to the outside line so if stats are better via this then your internal wiring is to blame. Not 100% sure but if your router is put up in the loft, you cant get it any higher.

Have a look at a few of the forums re Face Plate and Noise

Ah, a problem. My house doesn't have a junction box like that. No faceplate etc.
Just a box with wires connected and going everywhere. No test socket.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

Thanks for trying to help, sorry my wiring is too old.
I also switched my UPnP to off and it seems to have solved the disconnecting problems too. Early days, but hoping that's sorted the problem out.
Just ran another test and these are the results:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3904 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.0 db 25.0 db
Noise Margin 8.3 db 23.0 db

That connection speed looks low compared to many on this site but I suppose translated it's just under 4Mbs so ain't too bad!

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

Have you tried the TCO Optimizer tool ???

I had real problems, switched off the UPnP and disconnections stopped. Before downloading the TCP tool my down speed was 4447 kbps and tested after the download it rocketed to 13500 kbps.

The only other thing I can see is your line attenuation at 41.0 db is high but not too much you can do about that.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

I'd like to try that TCO Optimizer tool. Do you have a link please?

BTW, that trick of turning off the upnp seems to have worked.

      Thanks for posting it!

Just done another Sky Test at 19:14 today, results are

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4800 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.0 db 25.0 db
Noise Margin 3.3 db 23.0 db

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

Thanks for that TDB. I did find it last night but then couldn't find this thread to tell you!
Another very useful tool I found on this site gives us the real Sky user name and password. The advantage is that you can then use them in any other b/band modem. I tried it this morning and am currently online via my old Virgin.net Speed Touch 330 modem! ACE!
I know it's against the sky rules to use a different router, but if their's is faulty and you need to use the internet, and they won't respond, Ican't see it doing any harm.

      Thanks again!

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix

Hope you get a result with the Optimizer tool as it did the trick with my speeds and they rose from 4447 to 13200 kbps

I just did a test, not as fast as it can get but still good :

I also use the Mosswell Bounce tool as this allows a reconnection without losing any work. Do a search for this download.
