The one good thing that plusnet did was the RSS feeds/regular e-mails for any support problems - I don't suppose by any remote chance that there is something similar for Sky Broadband?

Hmmm. That's not very helpful on their part - but makes this site all the more essential!!

      Unhappy router nightmare

I did have concerns about changing ISP providers - but as Plus.Net were becoming so unreliable, I bit the bullet and joined sky.. several people urged caution, but I went on regardless.

      router arrived ok,
connection switched over ok - on time

router set up and connected ok - 8.mg as promised, delayed e.mail from previous connection started to arrive - along with gallons of spam ( will get around to fixing that bit later)

I was a contented ISP customer... then......

router dropped out without warning, kept having to switch off the router inorder to get it to pick up again and connect e.mail. first this started to happen every now and then but now.....

I get as far as 16mins 22 sec and it's off again.

I think I must have spoken to just about every memebeer off staff within sky, run up an overdraft with the bank, become a seasoned virtual internet traveller having spoken to almost every country you can think of.

Ireland seems the best - I have reset router, I have changed channels, deleted cookies, changed the cables, changed the sockets, swapped the filters around, unplugged sky box from the phone line....

the only thing that kicks the router back into action apart from getting a pen to reset the button on the back of the router - is to switch it off at the mains for a while.

any one got a new ideas for me

16 minutes between disconnects? Classic symptoms of the UPnP bug in the Sky router firmware.

To fix it (if that's what the problem is), log into the router admin pages and turn off UPnP. Then reboot the router and the PC.

Same here - right down to the move from plusnet!! The upnp is almost certainly the problem - I usually had to pull the power cable from the back, although it would connect up again no problem after that - no need to wait. I also switched off wireless, as I'm completely wired ( ).

      Thumbs up router fix

Sshhhhh....... so far router is behaving itself today.

I wished I had known at the begining about deselecting that box in the router setup. even to a point when during one of my multiple call to the support team I was told to make sure it was ticked!!

If I had known I would have saved hours and I means hours of expensive telephone calls. my phone calls are free except when it is to a 0870 or 0845 number.

don't tell anyone but the line is still connected........... and it has gone past the 16.22secs.

I complained about cost of calls, and they told me to send phone bills in with the relevant numbers marked, for a refund. Although that could just be to try and put me off, as I also complained a couple of days ago about the cost of a call to Sky, when ringing to find out about unbundling and a problem with my bill, and the guy straight away gave me a credit on my account for it.

I have been connected since monday on the max package and am having trouble maintaining a connection using the ethernet connection. My line seems ok from about 4 til 8 and then i start getting serious disconnects about this time. Last night i kept getting disconnected after about a minute so i gave up. I have looked at the original solution for this at the start of the thread but i cant keep connected for an hour between 8 and 9 so i cant conduct all the speed tests which it says you should do. I'm really happy with the speeds im getting all i want now is a steady connection. Any help would be appreciated.
