When is the Update coming along???

This is a discussion on When is the Update coming along??? within the Sky Router forums, part of the Sky Broadband help category; I'm pretty sure it'll work just fine on Connect. I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't. Edit: Unless ...

Edit: Unless you're capped - in that situation, you wouldn't be able to set a lower target noise margin in order to get a faster speed. But that too would be the same regardless of whether you're on Connect or an LLU'd connection.

I'd thought that on ADSL Max such settings were set during the training period and couldn't be altered by the user. Thanks for correcting me James.

Yes you can alter the noise margin and hence sync using Mognuts with Connect but I think it is more accurate to say it can work "fine" rather than will. Playing around with the nose margin/sync can have unforeseen consequences both in the training period and post training.

ADSL Max's rate adaptation processes strive to set a Maximum Stable Rate (MSR) and by consequence a Fault Threshold Rate (FTR). FTR affects the Dynamic Line Mangement (DLM) which together with MAX (BRAS alignment) drives RAMBo (Rate Adaptive Management Box). Phew! Once the FTR is set DLM doesn't have an ability to increase the target noise margin (except in particular circumstances such as if it detects the line is "flapping").

Problems can arise if this rather complicated closed loop is interfered with. The BBCR (reporting system that sits above the whole process) directly influences the DSL line rate and the associated BRAS profile. As a BRAS profile change depends on sync events occurring within the rules set in the above process, in theory a misalignment between the DSL line rate, the BRAS rate and the IP rate can occur. If DLM is bypassed by manipulating the margin/speed through the router, then serious stability issues can occur e.g. remember DLM can't easily "restore" a noise margin that has been changed.

Or, to put it more simply, using Mognuts to change the noise margin/sync is a risky process and one which if it goes wrong will need Sky to liaise with BTw to resolve.

These are not really what is required. Read the post from the link below and post your detailed stats.
BTW I would not say that 13.6 dbs is 'unbelievably high'. The fact that you are on Connect means that your profile has probably been set a bit lower than necessary. It's a bit more difficult to get the speed back up than on LLU.
