      Exclamation Belkin Router Help

Earlier today I attempted to setup my almost new Belkin Router .... however, to say it didn't go well is an understatement.

Firstly the supplied router is one of the old Netgear models, so obtaining Username and Password was possible.

As a precaution I printed out every page from the Netgear Online Setup utility and attempted to apply the setting to the Belkin.

The end result is that the Belkin connects as I am able to get to its online setup utility, but it claims that theres no connection.

      Where am I going wrong?
Is there anything else I need to setup?

btw, this setup was for my father, my own (also sky) works fine, but I'm not able to check settings etc as I'm not at my fathers home just now. Will pop over after the weekend and try to get some screen shots of the Belkin setup and post them up here.

If however, you can be of assistance ... I'd be eternally greatful.

Oah and the belkin router used to work just fine when I was with Pipex.

why are you using another router when the speed test on your sig seems fine?...

EDIT: it's not for you - then why change it for your dad who almost certainly wont have the need for a better router...

Simple answer ... because his router is disconnecting all the time and when it's not disconnecting it refuses to load pages and sky have all but refused to help him.

So the alternative is to change the router and if that doesn't work then consider a reformat and re-install.

if you see the first link on my sig it'll show you how to post the stats as its more than likely to be either wiring or setup your end causing the drop outs...

      Re: Belkin Router Help

Unlikely, currently his netgear (sky supplied router) is connected to the master socket directly and then wirelessly connected to his pc, which is upstairs and uses a netgear wireless card to detect the signal (as recommended elsewhere on this forum).

Also for the first few months he was very happy with the service it's only the last two months that is become un-useable.

      Re: Belkin Router Help

but without knowing it connects wired i'm not sure you can rule anything out.
even in the bumf for setting up the sky wireless it suggests being wired first (once online its then easier to set the wireless up, and remove the cable to see if conection is still up)
