      Original Sky firmware required

Hi, I would like to try an upgrade the firmware to the Netgear one but I wish to have the original Sky firmware available in case I need it. Unfortunately I have lost the CD. Could someone please email me or post a link to the original Sky firmware for the Netgear DG834GT.

      Thanks,
      Sam

      Re: Original Sky firmware required

You may want to hold fire on changing the firmware as the old white netgear v1 routers are all about to be upgraded to the same firmware version as the new v2 routers.

The new firmware version is meant to be a lot better and if you flash your router to a new non-sky firmware when sky try and update the router it will most likely generate an error and sky will know that you have flashed your router.

Not quite the same, as far as we know the Sky Branding will not be present in this update that is forthcoming. Although a lot of the problems will be gone once released.

      Re: Original Sky firmware required

Will sky be replacing the old routers with the new Black ones? Also do you know how will sky go about updating the router's firmware?

Could someone still post the firmware please, just in case!

      Not normally

The new update will be triggered by your router on sync with the Exchange, then the update will be rolled out automatically. However if you do not have the original FW it is doubtful that you will receive any updates.

But remember Sky could take this opportunity to blacklist the MAC's of those routers that do not receive said update and suspend your access. Not saying Sky will, but it could possibly happen.

      Interesting.

Do you have an idea of when this update will be rolled out? And are you sure that sky will not be able to override the Netgear firmware with their update?

      Re: Original Sky firmware required

      Nope, simple answer.

It has been Beta tested for months, and I do believe is not far away from being released. Obviously though, it will need to pass all the tests before Sky even begin to roll out. We were under the impression that if not before Christmas shortly afterwards.

We will post as soon as we hear on the grapevine.

afaik It will check for an existing Sky FW so if none present cannot install. I think it would need the Sky FW to trigger the actions required to check if a new one is present or not. If that makes sense.
