      Router disconecting

      Hi,

About a week ago my Sagem router all of a sudden started disconecting and saying "PPP server down" - ADSL TRANING messages. If i got connected about a minute later i would disconect. When i first got sky broadband which was about a month ago my stats were:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 20.0 db 8.3 db
Noise Margin 15.8 db 16.0 db

And since the disconections started its:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 20.5 db 9.0 db
Noise Margin 8.4 db 9.5 db

Which is wierd. I am assuming something has gone wrong with the router. If i was to ring sky would i have to go through all there long talk to find the router is still messing up.

      Thanks

Noise Margin 8.4 db 9.5 db
i would think your problem may be down to you line, the above figures have taken a big drop from your first stats
if you are using an extension, you could do a cpmparison set of stats form your master socket

      Re: Router disconecting

the problem may be the BT line ?,

i have had problems in the last month with the Noise margins changing (mine was also about 6db change)
i could also hear noise on my phone line which pointed to a BT problem
(i was to lazy to get anything done about it, and it got better after about a week)

sorry i cannot give you any more help

      Re: Router disconecting

I rang sky and got throught to tier 3. The guy told me if he did not ring back by 00:15 he would send a new router. He didnt ring but has capped me to 10239. Does that mean he is sending the router and capped me for the sake of it. Also now i can hear crackling on my phone. Which makes me think something has happened to my XTE - 2005 faceplate.

      Any input would help

      Re: Router disconecting

you will need to do a test from the "test socket" with the phone only plugged in (corded if poss) and see if you still get the noise. If so you will have to get onto BT (do not mention broadband, just about the noise)

as for a new router ? you will have to see if one turns up (give it about a week)
the cap was prob set to reduce line errors

      Re: Router disconecting

      OK,

Im using the test socket now and my stats have gone back to how they originally were.

      Crap stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 20.5 db 9.0 db
Noise Margin 8.4 db 9.5 db

      test socket stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10239 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 20.0 db 8.8 db
Noise Margin 16.3 db 16.0 db

      Original stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 20.0 db 8.3 db
Noise Margin 15.8 db 16.0 db

You can see that my attenuation has gone from 20.5 back to 20 and noise margin is healthy. Also my upload stats have dramatically changed .This may be becuase of the cap but becuase my attenuation has gone back to normal makes me think otherwise. If this is the case then my XTE-2005 faceplate has gone dodgy after a year since installing it.

      Edit:

Since yesterday i can now hear crackling on my phone. Being plugged into my test socket now i tested to see what would happen when i got a dial tone on my phone. When i did my noise margin dropped from 16.3 to 14.4 so something has gone wrong and i dont know what.

      Edit:

After a day of messing with the phone line i have come to a conclusion that my XTE - 2005 socket must have been the problem. So know i have everything connected to the test socket. TIER 3 just gave me a call and said the same thing and since using the Test socket my connection has been stable so the friendly guy offered to sync my router higher to see if there were any errors. There were no errors and now im syncing at:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15359 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 20.0 db 8.4 db
Noise Margin 13.9 db 16.0 db

Which is slightly higher than originally. Which i was pleased about. Now im going to monitor my connection and Tier 3 said if any errors pop up than a new router will be dispatched.

Thanks again for all your help

P.S. If your thinking about calling sky definatley call after 11 becuase i pretty much got straight through to Tier 3 and they are very good.

Its been 16 hours now and my router has re synced:

      System Up Time: 16:12:44

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 13028 17648 0 0 0 11:09:10
      LAN 53123 61650 0 0 0 16:12:44
      WLAN 2311069 1551597 0 0 0 16:12:23

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16383 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 20.0 db 8.4 db

      Re: Router disconecting

I am very happy with what sky have done to help me. Just goes to show that sky are not as bad as people say they are. To me any way

Also my noise margin has been going to around 10.6 db and 13db do you think there will be many errors ??
