you dont need a new router, just phone sky and ask them to lift the cap

It looks like your line has been heavily capped which must have been done for a reason which a new router probably won't solve.

I would be looking very carefully at your internal cabling for something not right with an extension or ADSL filter.

i do have an extension wire wich i am usinng for the router. i doubt it it is the cause of the proeblam since when i first got my sky broadband, it ws perfect for the first 6 months. so it is definitely something else.

Re: netgear sky router problem (very annoying)

Just because something has worked till now does not mean it will continue working. If the router is now in the master socket then please post a new set of stats, if the stats are better then it is most likely that the extension has developed a fault. If this is the case go back to technical support ask to be troubleshot for slow connection and tell them that you have been capped (they set a max speed on your line to stabilise the connection so that you do not see many (if any) outages) and that you need to talk to CST so that the cap can be lifted as you have now removed the issue from your line. CST will check your stats and remove or raise your cap so that you can get a better speed.
If the cap is not lifted you will see no improvement in speed on your connection.

Have you had ANYTHING new connected to your telephone line anywhere in the house, e.g. telephone, fax, answering machine, burglar alarm, Sky digibox, Sky+; anything which may not have an ADSL filter fitted?

Have you tried a quiet line test - on any standard phone, dial 17070 then option 2 - to listen for any interference on the line?

If Sky have reduced your connection speed from 8096 kbps to 2236 kbps it must have been done for a reason and it would be better to find the problem before contacting them.

by master socket, mean that the power cord is in the master power cord, not an evtension with 5 sockets e.t.c
