      Wireless Connection Problems - Intermittent

      Hi,

My laptop intermittently connects and disconnects from the netgear router. Sometimes it won't even find the signal. I know its not my laptop as it can even connect to next door neighbours better!

My laptop is about 30 yards away. Router upstairs and laptop downstairs. It connects better when nearer but that is no good to me.

Is there a problem with these sky netgear routers? I've tried the sky help page with basic interferrence etc but still get a prob?

I changed from AOL to sky and never had a prob with the AOL netgear router connecting to my laptop.

Can someone please provide some advice?

      Stuart

Have you turned off UPNP on the router?

      It was turned on.

I have turned it off. What difference will this make?

I've tried turning UPNP off and it does not seem to make much difference.

What does make a difference is if i go nearer to the router with my laptop. It seems to stay connected then. Perhaps my walls are too thick in the house?

      Has anyone got any suggestions?

I've heard of powerline ethernet adapters. Would this make a difference if iwas to use them?

Try a channel change too, many things can interfere with wireless unfortunately. Homeplug systems can be very good if your home electrical wiring is ok and has been installed properly. Any issues on the internal power circuits and it may be a rough ride.

You could try experimenting with the angle of the aerial. If you have it vertical try it through the different angles down to horizontal. I am assuming you have the V1 with an external aerial, if you haven't, try sitting the router flat if you have it vertical and vice versa. You may also want to consider a high gain aerial.
